I can help you with:
who am I?
Compassion and empathy are at the core of who I am, both as an individual and as a lawyer. My practice at macushlaw primarily focuses on corporate, commercial, and immigration law. I am committed to delivering thoughtful, proportionate, and people‑centred legal advice that is grounded in clarity, care, and alignment with the values of a B-Corp.
My corporate and commercial practice centres on advising clients on governance, structuring, reorganizations, and operational matters. I work closely with organizations to support sustainable growth and sound decision‑making, bringing a practical and solutions‑oriented approach to complex legal issues.
In addition to my corporate and commercial practice, I advise on immigration matters as they relate to corporate and employment law, including workforce mobility and the recruitment of foreign workers. Following my call to the Bar in British Columbia, I expanded my practice to include immigration law, including refugee and humanitarian matters, driven by a longstanding commitment to human rights and access to justice. While I no longer practise refugee or humanitarian law, this experience continues to inform my immigration work and values at macushlaw, particularly my interest in thoughtful, people‑centred legal solutions and socially conscious business and employment practices.
I completed my legal studies at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom and was called to the Bar in Ontario in 2015. After returning to legal practice in Vancouver, I was called to the Bar in British Columbia in 2023.
Between periods of legal practice, I took a brief hiatus from law to develop my career as a professional hairstylist, working in Toronto, Sydney, Melbourne, and Vancouver. This experience strengthened my interpersonal skills and deepened my ability to build trust, communicate with care, and connect meaningfully with people from diverse backgrounds. These skills continue to shape my holistic and empathetic approach to legal practice.
Outside of work, I enjoy reading and practicing yoga, Pilates, and breathwork. I spend most of my time in Vancouver’s natural surroundings through hiking, paddleboarding, and camping, and enjoy exploring the city’s vibrant vegan food scene as well as its music and arts community.
*Serina is licensed to practice in both British Columbia and Ontario.
